Phil has extensive experience in renewable energy project development, including specific experience in the sugar industry and bagasse pellet plant development and operations. Phil is currently the CEO of Delta Biofuel LLC, a bagasse pellet manufacturer which has completed construction of a production plant in Jeanerette, Louisiana which will produce 340,000 metric tons per year of pellets. Delta has secured $120 million for the project and start up is scheduled for Q4 of 2024.

Prior to Delta Biofuel, Phil managed an investment in a torrefied bagasse pellet (aka “black pellet”) plant in Louisiana for several years; from early stage concept to successful pellet production. His initial role was as a board member representing the control investor, and subsequent years as CEO after he took over day-to-day operations to re-organize the company, recruit and build a new team and initiate the development and construction of a redesigned plant that was ultimately able to produce torrefied pellets to required specification from raw bagasse on a fully-automated end-to-end system.

Prior to this, Phil has accumulated 20+ years of experience in renewable and traditional energy project development, strategic advisory and financing activities, including working in venerable investment banking institutions such as Lazard and UBS before moving to the operational side. Experience includes working with companies and projects across renewable initiatives such as waste-to-energy, cellulosic ethanol, solar, fuel cell, energy storage, hybrid vehicles, biodiesel production and others. Phil’s prior work in the fossil fuel business included advising and financing companies in sectors such as oil & gas exploration and production, oilfield service businesses and global tanker companies. This broad experience gives Phil a unique perspective on the entire energy production spectrum and fuel supply dynamic.
